Dr Simon Phelan is a Senior Lecturer in Sport, Coaching and Physical Education at Oxford Brookes University. Completing his PhD in ‘Organisational Learning and Knowledge Transfer Amongst High Performance Coaches’ at the University of Birmingham in 2015, Simon has held teaching and lectureship roles at the University of Birmingham and University of Northampton, before joining Oxford Brookes in 2017. Simon has published research papers in leading scientific journals and completed a number of large-scale evaluations studies for national governing bodies and sports organisations (including The Football Association, Youth Sports Trusts and England Athletics). At present, Simon’s research investigates the role of organisational culture on shaping the development of coaches’ professional knowledge, alongside studies of knowledge transfer and retention within coaching networks. Simon is currently working on a variety of projects exploring concussion knowledge, attitudes and prevention. The Sport & Coaching Sciences programme has experience and expertise across the Sport and Exercise Science / Sport, Coaching and Physical Education spectrum with expertise in Pedagogy, Coach Education, Physiology, Sports Medicine, Psychology and Biomechanics.
